Fire guts thatched house

Forikrom (B/A), Feb. 14 GNA- A thatched house belonging to Mr. Yaw Adu Twum at Forikrom in the Techiman Municipality has been completely gutted by fire.

Ten occupants in the house have been displaced, properties worth about 25.8 million cedis have been destroyed, and the cause of the fire outbreak was not immediately known. The property destroyed included personal effects, 600 tubers of yams, four bags of maize, five large rubber drums, a packet of roofing sheets and cooking utensils.

Mr. James Kwabena Osei, Assemblyman for Forikrom Electoral Area, led official of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) and GNA to the scene of the incident.

He said the incident occurred at 2200 hours when the occupants were still in bed and the displaced people were currently living with friends and relatives in the area. In another development, properties worth 40 million cedis, belonging to Madam Cecilia Owusuaa, a female teacher of Adutwie Local Authority Primary School also in the Municipality, have been destroyed by fire.

Mr. Appiah Adjei, Tuobodom Zonal Co-ordinator of NADMO, who disclosed this to GNA, said the incident occurred when the woman and six other people were attending a funeral at Tuobodom. He said, the cause of the fire was not known as the fire completely destroyed the thatched house. Items destroyed included, a bicycle, a sewing machine, a mattress, personal effects and cooking utensils.
