Fire destroys deceased's building

Nkawkaw-Kuma (E/R), May 29, GNA - A fire outbreak at Nkawkaw-Kuma, near Nkawkaw, on Thursday destroyed all the contents of a seven-room house, including several millions of cedis in local and foreign currencies meant for the funeral of the late Kwame Ofosu, popularly called Wofa Kwame, at Kwahu Pepease.

It took personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service at Nkawkaw more than four hours to extinguish the blaze. According to Mr Andrews Abrokwa, Nkawkaw District Fire Officer, his outfit received a distress call around 2200 hours and when his men got to the area, they realized that all the rooms on the top floor of the one-story building was in flames and that it took them at least four hours to put it off.

According to an eyewitness in the house, there was smoke coming out from the bedroom of the wife of the late landlord, which later spread to other rooms on the top floor.

There were no casualties. The fire department said it was investigating the cause of the fire.
