Fire destroys 23 houses at Abareyakrom

Nkoranza(B/A), March 10, GNA - Fire razed about 23 thatched houses at Abareyakrom, a farming community in Nkoranza district of Brong-Ahafo last weekend.

Several million cedis of properties including personal effects and foodstuffs such as yam, maize, millet and groundnuts belonging to the residents were destroyed.

Mr Kwabena Twene, former Assembly member of the area told Ghana News Agency at Nkoranza that more than 150 residents had been displaced.

He said the disaster was caused by a bushfire when most of the residents had gone to farm.

Mr. Twene said the displaced people were temporarily staying in the open as they made efforts to rehabilitate their houses. He appealed to the Nkoranza district secretariat of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), NGOs, religious bodies and public-spirited individuals to assist the victims.
