Fire burns down house

Akyem Oda, Feb. 22 GNA- Property worth over 100 million cedis and a cash of 3 million cedis were burnt to ashes when fire razed down a four-room self-contained house at Akyem Oda last Saturday.

Mr. Ameyaw Akumfi-Mensah, range supervisor of the Akyem Oda District Forestry Services Division whose items were burnt told the GNA that the incident occurred at about 0130 hours on that day when he was fast asleep.

According to him he started to cough around that time and woke up and put on the light to see what was going on. "I then saw that smoke was coming from the guest room so I quickly opened the door to see if the situation could be contained". Mr Akumfi-Mensah said realising that he could not save the situation he quickly dashed into his bedroom in attempt to salvaged a few of his property, including important documents but had to abandoned the idea when he saw that the fire was spreading fast. According to him he sought assistance from the Akyem Oda District fire service station but before their arrival the whole house was burnt down.

Mr Akumfi-Mensah said he lost everything to the fire, adding that he was left with only a pant and a singlet. Mr Aikins Ababio, the Public Relations Officer of the district fire service told the GNA that the cause of the fire was not immediately known but investigations were underway to find out what might have gone wrong.
