Fijai Senior High School wins Mathematics quiz contest

Fijai, Feb. 15, GNA - Fijai Senior High School won the

Valentine Day mathematics quiz competition organized by the

Ghana Mathematics Society at Sekondi on Monday. The school scored 37 points to beat Ghana Secondary

Technical School which obtained 32 in a keenly contested

quiz involving six schools in the Western Region. The other competing schools were the Half Assini Senior

High School which came third with 31 points followed by

Baidoo Bonsu Senior High School, Archbishop Porter Girls

Secondary School and Nkroful Agriculture Senior High

school. Mr. Ebenezer Otoo, a Lecturer at Takoradi Polytechnic

and Regional Chairman of the Society, said February 14

every year has been set aside by the society to celebrate

mathematics. He said statistics continued to indicate that the level of

familiarity with mathematics among students kept dropping

and urgent measures must be adopted to whip up interest of

students in the subject. Mr. Otoo said the studying of mathematics must be

encouraged as it was an important tool in solving teething

development challenges. Mr. Stephen Dandey, the regional organizer of the society

and a teacher at the Half Assini Senior High School, called on

the Ministry of Education to complement activities of the

society and other well meaning organizations to promote the

subject.
