Fight against disease, poverty - Canon

Dorma-Ahenkro (B/A), Dec. 25, GNA - Reverend Canon Emmanuel Mensah of Saint James Anglican Church at Dorma-Ahenkro in a sermon said the Yuletide should be a source of encouragement to Ghanaians to fight against ignorance, disease and poverty.

Preaching on the theme, "Christians the way forward," he said, it is essential that Christians are sympathetic and responsive to the needs of their neighbours.

Canon Mensah stressed the need for Christians to help in avoiding violence and promote peace, which is the hallmark of their call. He noted that the way forward is difficult "But we have to look forward with the humility that this period bring to all of us." Canon Mensah called on Christians to get closer to God so that it can also come closer to them.

He said the birth of Christ symbolises hope and advise Christians to use the occasion not only for merry-making but to strategise as to how they could contribute effectively to national development. At the Temple of Praise Ministries Church, Rev Alex Djan-Benneh, Minister in Charge, said the birth of Christ in a manger signified how it was brought up in a very simple family but later rose up to become the most high.

He advised Ghanaians to lead simple lives from the beginning so that they could also rise to the top in future.

Rev Djan-Benneh called on Ghanaians to accept laws and policies of the government and contribute meaningfully to the political, social and economic development of the country.

With hard work and dedication to duty, it is hoped that the economy will be put on a sound footing.
