Fifty-one passengers injured in road accident

Tepa (Ash), Oct 6, GNA - Fifty-one passengers, mostly traders returning from Goaso to Kumasi, sustained injuries when a Metro Mass Transit bus on which they were travelling was involved in an accident at Anyinasu-Nkwanta near Tepa on Wednesday evening.

Seven of the victims, Janet Mensah, 26, Yaa Asieduwaa, 34, Michael Duah, Faustina Tiwaah, Florence Manu, Afua Serwaa, 22, and Cecilia Antwi who sustained serious injuries, were sent to Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi for treatment. Six others, Margaret Asante, 43, Diana Acheampong, 31, Abena Ataah, 37, Rose Boakye, 49, Isaac Sarpong, 30, and Yaw Ofori, 55, are on admission at the Tepa District Hospital while the rest were treated and discharged.

Briefing newsmen at Tepa, Police Inspector Francis Asante said a driver of a truck flashed his high and fog-lights on the Metro bus, blinding the driver, Moro Mohammed. In an attempt to avoid collision, the bus veered off the road, hit a culvert and fell into a gutter.
