Ex-convict jailed for defiling 11-year-old girl

Aflao (V/R), March 6, GNA - Kwabla Ahorlu Hete, 44, an ex-convict has been arrested by the Police in Aflao for detaining an 11-year old Togolese girl for four days in his room during which he defiled her. The girl, who was escaping from persistent maltreatment being meted out to her by the aunt in Lome, Togo, had arrived at Aflao on her way to Sunyani where her grandparents are said to be living.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Baba Moro told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Aflao that the girl was said to have been constantly beaten and denied food by her aunt, one Sherita at Adakpame, a suburb of Lome.

ASP Moro said Hete, who met the girl when she arrived at Aflao on her way to Sunyani, lured her to his room, located behind the Aflao Central Hospital where he kept her for four days during which he had sex with her several times.

He said a female adult neighbour of Hete, who was suspicious about his action, reported him to the police, leading to his arrest on March 4, this year.

Hete was subsequently arraigned and sentenced to 20 years' imprisonment by the Aflao Circuit Court on Friday after he pleaded guilty to the charge of defilement.

Medical reports on the victim from the Aflao District Hospital confirmed that her hymen was broken.

Hete also admitted to the court that he was an ex-convict who was jailed for stealing.
