Establish a mini military barracks in the Sene District

Bassa (B/A), June 12, GNA- The Government has been urged as a matter of urgency to establish a mini military barracks in the Sene District of Brong-Ahafo Region to strengthen security in the middle belt zone of the country.

Nana Addo Mensah, Nifahene of the Bassa traditional area in the Brong Ahafo Region, who made the call, explained that although the Sunyani barracks was supposed to cater for the same district and other parts of the region, it was too far away to be able to respond swiftly in the event of emergencies.

The Nifahene stated this on Thursday at a durbar of Chiefs and People of Bassa in the Brong-Ahafo Region in honour of visiting District Chief Executive's in the region, who were on a one day familiarisation tour of the Sene District.

He indicated that the community had put up their own police station and were ready to provide the needed accommodation for the military personnel posted to serve the area.

He said they were also ready to provide a piece of land for the establishment of a military barracks to beef-up security in the meddle belt, especially along the Volta Basin where the crime wave and violence was very high.

The Nifahene appealed to the government to terminate the contracts of non-performing contractors and only award contracts to those who were ready to deliver a good and faster job. Madam Cynthia Titiriku Danso, District Chief Executive (DCE) for Sene commended the people of Basssa for complementing government's efforts and pledged to support any community that initiated its own programmes before seeking governments support.

Mr. Kwabena Kyere Yeboah, DCE for Berekum who led the delegation called for unity among the traditional authorities in the district since chieftaincy disputes does not augur well for the development of the nation.

He pledged government's support for the development of the area and assured them that everything possible would be done to help rehabilitate the roads in the area.
