Enumerators, supervisors recruited for census in Mfantseman

Saltpond, Sept. 1, GNA - The Ghana Statistical Service, in collaboration with Mfantseman Municipal Assembly, has recruited 414 people for training to handle the 2010 population and housing census.

Alhaji Ishaq Asuru, Municipal Coordinating Director who briefed members of the assembly at Saltpond, said the municipality had been divided into 256 enumeration areas.

He said the recruited census staffs are made up of 333 enumerators including those who would enumerate in institutions and those who would stand-bye for any eventuality, 74 supervisors and seven senior supervisors.

A supervisor would be expected to supervise eight to 11 enumerators.

Alhaji Asuru said a training programme would be held from September 5-19 whilst listing of structures would be conduced from September 20 to 25.

He said a number of activities had been planed to herald the census night in the municipality and these include borne fire, sounding of sirens and horns and ringing of bells in churches.

Alhaji Asuru appealed to Ghanaians and foreigners living in the country to have patience in responding to the questionnaires and to cooperate with the enumerators.

He said it was not true that the census was meant for tax collection and that the government needed the information to plan the development of the country.
