Engage the Youth in indigenous cultural activities - CNC

Bolgatanga Nov.2, GNA - Mr. Fuzzy Kombat, the Upper East Regional Director of Centre for National Culture (CNC), on Tuesday called on government, parents and non-governmental organisations to engage the youth in indigenous cultural activities to enable them learn what they are made of and forget of copying western culture.

He said engaging them at a tender age makes them conscious of their cultural heritage, which is an indispensable condition for national identity and survival. Mr Kombat said this during at the start of a District Cultural Festival as part of the Upper East Region at 50 years celebration in Bolgatanga.

He said it was due to ignoring the youth in taking part in cultural activities that had led them to learn and adopt foreign cultures and unacceptable habits that continue to increase moral decadence in the Ghanaian society.

Mr Kombat appealed to parents to encourage their children to show interest in activities related to Ghanaian and African arts and culture.

He appealed to Districts, Municipal, and Metropolitan Assemblies to assist traditional rulers to come out with moderate decent palaces to befit their status. He said the issue of queen mothers and women leaders should be implemented for total mobilisation of women for development.
