Energy Minister supports the aged in Ellembelle

Mr Emmanuel Armah Kofi-Buah, Member of Parliament (MP) for Ellembelle and Minister of Energy and Petroleum, has supported the aged in his constituency with special health services and food packages to make them live a decent and healthy lifestyle.

More than 800 elderly people above 70 years had been registered in the district to benefit from health services through the Social Welfare Department and Elderly Care Recreational Centre, a foundation established by the Minister to facilitate the fulfillment of set objectives.

It had supported the aged to undergo blood pressure screening exercises and donated items such as bags of rice, cooking oil, soap and biscuits to over 200 elderly people in the area.

Reverend Dr Peace Donkor, Project Director of the Foundation, told the Ghana News Agency at Nkroful in the Ellembelle District that since the MP launched the Foundation in February this year, over 100 aged had been registered free-of-charge under the National Health Insurance Scheme whilst wheel chairs were supplied to the disabled.

Rev. Dr. Donkor said the MP also provided financial support for the registration of students who could not pass all their papers in the May/June West Africa Certificate Examination to write the November/December exams.

The Project Director said the MP also organised inter-circuit quiz competition for six circuits in the district with the winning circuit receiving GH¢500 and a trophy, second position had GH¢300 and third GH¢200 while participating circuits were given stationery and other teaching and learning materials.

Dr Donkor said land had been secured for the construction of football pitch, volley ball and tennis courts as well as an administrative block so that the elderly and the youth could gather for recreational activities where the elderly could share their experiences with the youth.
