Elizabeth Foundation launches scholarship for needy children

The Elizabeth Foundation International, an educational centered NGO, has launched a scholarship scheme to support needy but brilliant children to further their education.

Over 20 students in junior and senior high schools have started accessing the scheme in the Agona West and Agona East District, Mr Kofi Mawuli, the Director of the Foundation, told journalists at Agona Swedru.

He said the Foundation had prioritized education because it was key to human development and reduction of poverty.

Mr Mawuli said the founder and leader of the Foundation, Madam Elizabeth Ayensu, who is based in Manchester in United Kingdom, would arrive in April to inaugurate a school at Agona Swedru.

He said a block of four classrooms had been build and the first 10 children who have been enrolled at Kindergarten (KG) would be on scholarship.

Mr Mawuli said a hostel for the girls had been completed and one for boys was expected to be finished in March.

He said 12 classrooms are under construction and expressed the hope that the project would be completed by the end of 2015.

Mr Mawuli said the Foundation had decided to invest heavily in “these vulnerable children who have no parental care to pursue quality education”.
