Effutu municipality to benefit from six EU projects

Winneba (C/R), Aug. 16, GNA - The Effutu Municipal Assembly is to benefit from six projects under the European Union (EU) second phase project this year.

The projects include a three classroom block at Abasraba, a 16-seater each toilet facility at Zion and Don Bosco Schools, and Penkye, all in Winneba township.

The rest are a teacher's quarters at Gyangyanadze and a 16-Seater Vault toilet at Worababa. The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Mr Robert Andrew Ghanney said this at the first ordinary meeting of the Effutu Municipal Assembly at Winneba on Friday. He therefore appealed to beneficiary communities to get lands ready for inspections by the Municipal Planning Officer for the early take-off of the projects. Mr Ghanney said five communities would enjoy bole-holes through Community Water and Sanitation Projects. He said three of the communities are in New Winneba, while the remaining two are in Atekyedo and Gyangyanadze. The MCE said the assembly would enjoy assistance from the Millennium Development Authority in the area of agricultural development and mentioned Ateitu, Osubonpayin, Atekyedo, Gyangyanadze and Essuakyir as some of the beneficiary communities. He tasked the works section of the assembly to pay regular visits to the project sites to prevent shoddy works, adding that, quarterly monitoring report on the projects should be submitted to the assembly. Mr Ghanney said the assembly would negotiate with chiefs of Ateitu, Ghadze and Atekyedo for agricultural land. The assembly should set up coconut plantation at the beaches with improved varieties to check sea erosion and also serves as beautification for the area, he said. Mr Ghanney said to improve revenue generation the assembly has to recruit 10 new security/revenue guards to beef up existing ones for effective revenue collection. He said as a measure of revenue intensification, the assembly has instituted a revenue check point opposite the Fire Service Office at Winneba Junction to clamp down on illegal activities and tax evasion.
