Edumadze Flees official residence

The former Central Regional Minister, Isaac Edumadze, has with the speed of lightening vacated the official residence he hijacked for almost three weeks and took cover as the Central Regional youth of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) made incursion and threatened the use of physical force to eject him from the offices. The hitherto debarred Central Regional Minister was relieved as he took over the offices last Monday, after almost three weeks of squatting elsewhere.

After coming under intense pressure from the regional youth wing of NPP, which attracted front page attention last week from both The Heritage and the Daily Guide, the former Central Regional Minister, fearful of any action either from the party or government vacated the place unannounced for the new minister, Nana Ato Arthur, to operate.

The Heritage can state authoritatively that Nana Ato Arthur started operating at the office for the substantive Regional Minister on Monday, after about three weeks of assuming responsibility as Central Regional Minister.

Minutes after a meeting with members of the Garage Workers Association in Cape Coast on Monday, the Minister in a jovial manner said that that was the first day he entered the office as the regional minister, attracting laughter among members of the press, who interacted with him at that moment.

It will be recalled that last Friday, the Heritage and The Daily Guide broke the news that some NPP youth in the regional capital were girding their loins to forcefully evict Mr. Edumadze from his office and residence. This came about as a result of Mr. Edumadze’s reluctance to vacate the regional offices despite his withdrawal from government, after President Kufuor’s reshuffle some three months ago.
