ECG warns UMaT to settle electricity debt

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has given the University of Mines and Technology (UMaT) in Tarkwa, a month ultimatum to settle its electricity debt or face disconnection.

Mr. Philip Osei Bonsu, Western Regional Public Relations Officer (PRO) of EGC, who disclosed this to the media after a team of officers from their outfit embarked on a one-day special disconnection exercise in Tarkwa

He said UMaT was among some institutions that owe the company huge sums of money in the Tarkwa District.

He said about 900 households were also disconnected in the exercise and a total sum of GH¢ 200,000.00 were collected from some of the defaulters.

The Western Regional PRO suggested that for ECG to be an efficient and credible institution to deliver quality service, Ghanaians must continuously pay for the power they consume.

Mr Osei Bonsu said the Company does not take delight in putting people into darkness but they have no option than to do that if a customer refused to settle his bail on time.

He, therefore, appealed to residents at Tarkwa and its environs to pay their electricity bills promptly to help ECG deliver quality service to them.
