EC to meet regional inter-party advisory committees

Accra, April 24, GNA - The Electoral Commission (EC) on Thursday said its members and Head Office Directors would engage regional leaders of political parties in special Regional Inter-Party Advisory Committee meetings in all regional capitals from April 28-May 2.

A statement issued in Accra said the meeting on Building Confidence in the Outcome of the 2008 Elections was aimed at offering the platform for the political parties to have insight into the work of the EC and for explanations on any issues of concern. The meetings organized by the EC with support from Friedrich Ebert and KAB Governance Consult would discuss topics including: Inbuilt Integrity of Ghana's Electoral Process; Results and Challenges of the Replacement of Lost Voter ID Cards; Revision of the voters' Register - Challenges and Expectations; Expectations of the Commission from Political Parties Towards Credible Elections in December 2008.

The statement said Central, Upper East and Upper West regions would have their meeting on Monday, 28 April; Western Region (Tuesday, April 29); Greater Accra, Northern and Brong Ahafo regions (Wednesday, April 30); and Volta, Eastern and Ashanti regions (Friday May 2).

It said leaders of the political parties that had not received invitations yet may contact Regional Directors of the EC in their respective regions.
