Dutch funds to rehabilitation Tamale Teaching Hospital

Tamale, Oct.21, GNA - The Dutch Government is to provide 37 million Euros for rehabilitation works at the Tamale Teaching Hospital scheduled for March next year.

Mr. Harrie Billekens, Contracts Manager from the Netherlands, announced this in Tamale on Wednesday, when he presented the master plan of the rehabilitation works to the Hospital authorities.

The project would include the construction of a 357-bed capacity Admission Ward, a new Emergency Block, five operating theatres and 32 staff bungalows.

Mr. Billekens said infrastructure at the Tamale Nursing Training College, would also be upgraded.

Dr. Daniel Tapang, Chief Executive of the Hospital, said the Hospital built in 1974, had seen very little rehabilitation works. Alhaji Iddrisu Adam, the Tamale Metropolitan Chief Executive, said district assemblies in the Northern Region were committing resources to sustain the Tamale West Hospital, to help decongest the Teaching Hospital.
