Drivers cautioned against overloading vehicles with mourners

Drivers in the country who convey corpses from the mortuary to funeral locations have been cautioned against reckless driving and overloading vehicles with mourners.

The Agona Swedru Divisional Commander of Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU), Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Philip Nortey, who issued the warning, said offending drivers would be arrested and made to face the law.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency at Agona Swedru, the MTTU Divisional Commander lamented that about two weeks ago, an over-speeding vehicle, conveying corpse and mourners from Gomoa Afransi to Gomoa Akrong, in the Central Region, was involved in an accident, resulting in the death of three of the mourners.

ASP Nortey said eight others received injuries and were being treated at the Agona Swedru Government Hospital.

He said six mourners, who were arrested in connection with the accident, would be prosecuted.
