District discovers more tourist sites

Duasidan (B/A) Sept. 7 GNA - A wild monkey sanctuary near Duasidan in the Dormaa district has been added to the numerous eco-tourism sites in the Brong-Ahafo region.

This brings to two such monkey sanctuaries in the region; the other being the Buaben-Fiema sanctuary near Nkoranza. Nana Oppong Kyekyeku, Chief of Duasidan disclosed the discovery when he launched a calendar on the Duasidan eco-tourism at Duasidan. Pictures on the calendar depicted scenes in the sanctuary, handicraft in the area, different forms of farming in the town, group pictures of the task force constituted to protect the sanctuary and different forms of traditional entertainment.

Nana Kyekyeku said the united nation's Development Programme, Green Shepherd of Ghana and Development Initiative Centre, both NGOs and the traditional leaders of the area were drawing comprehensive programmes aimed at sponsoring and efficiently managing the sanctuary to generate revenue for development.

"Among modalities being worked out is the idea of community-ownership and management".
