District Assembly to revive small businesses

Kpando (V/R), Aug. 5, GNA - The Kpando District Assembly is resolved to revitalize small scale industries in the district, Mr. Pius Adanuti, the District Chief Executive said on Monday. Mr Adanuti was speaking at a stakeholders' dialogue organized by the Ghana Journalists Association in collaboration with KAB Governance Consult for entrepreneurs in the district. The dialogue, sponsored by the Business Sector Advocacy Challenge (BUSAC) Fund seeks to engage the media in strengthening business advocacy.

Mr Adanuti said the Assembly had secured licenses for individuals and groups to operate rural banks to offer credit facilities to entrepreneurs in the district. He said the Assembly was providing temporary sheds at the District's Art Gallery to make the facility operational and serve as a handicraft showroom. Mr. Adanuti noted that the absence of rural banks and other financial institutions in the district was adversely affecting the predominant small and medium scale businesses in the district. He said the Assembly was exploring ways of reviving the District's Opportunities Industrialization Centre, which had been dormant for several years.

Mr Kwasi Afriyie Badu, Chief Executive Officer of KAB Governance Consult, observed that small and medium scale industries were very vibrant in the District and urged stakeholders to support the sector to thrive. Mr Bright Blewu, General Secretary of GJA, urged entrepreneurs in the District to form vibrant associations to enable them to access financial and other forms of support to improve their businesses.
