Department of Community Development abandon KVIP project

A twenty-seater KVIP toilet project for New Nkusukum, a suburb of Mankessim in the Central Region, which was awarded on contract to the Department of Community Development in 2000 has been abandoned.

Investigations by the Ghana News Agency have revealed that the former Central Region Director of the Department who signed the contract document and was in charge of its execution, now on transfer to the Northern Region failed to handover the project to his successor.

When Mr Michael Agana, the Regional Director of the Department was confronted with the problem, he said the former Director did not include the project in his handover notes and promised to assist in resolving the issue without success.

Madam Janet Ennin, Mfantseman District Community Development Officer also did not know anything about the project even though the District Assembly confirmed the contract was awarded to the Department.

Attempts to get the contract sum and how much had been paid proved futile as none of the senior officers of the Assembly was at post when the contract was awarded and the file on the project could not be traced.

Mr Frank Etrue Hayford, Assemblyman for the area said several attempts to get the project completed had not been successful, adding that, since the contract was awarded to the Department and not an individual it should be held responsible.
