DCE urges his people to patronise NHIS

Baafi (B/A), Sept. 21, GNA - Mr James Kwabena Appiah-Awuah, Nkoranza District Chief Executive (DCE), has called on his people to patronise the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) and register with the scheme to acquire security for themselves in times of sickness or ill health.

Mr Appiah-Awuah was addressing the people of Baafi and Sikaa at separate meetings on Friday, when he paid his maiden visit to towns to acquaint himself with the environment and conditions of the area. He stressed that the scheme is a very important policy initiated by the government of the New Patriotic Party, which seeks the well-being of the people.

He said the people should never play politics with the scheme, for governments would come and go, but if the scheme was well sustained, the people would continue enjoying and benefiting from it. Mr Appiah-Awuah advised the people to forge ahead in unity and desist from party politics, as well as chieftaincy disputes, which have adverse effects on community development.

In her welcoming address, Miss Patricia Konadu, Assemblywoman for Baafi, pleaded with the DCE to arrange for the extension of electricity to the area to enhance the development of the community. Miss Konadu also called for the organization of a vocational training course for the youth of the area to acquire employable skills to improve upon their socio-economic activities.

She praised the district assembly for providing the area with some bags of cement towards the construction of concrete poles for the electrification projects.

At Sikaa, Mr Kwaku Baffoe-Adamu, Assemblyman of the area, called on the Assembly to help construct a 3-classroom block for the local junior secondary school, as the old block, which was constructed with bricks was at the verge of collapse.

He explained that the community has started a 3-classroom block project for the local Presbyterian kindergarten school in the area, but for lack of funds, the project was at a stand still. He, therefore, called for the support of the Assembly to enable them to complete the project for the education of the younger generation in the community.

The people of the two communities complained bitterly of the deplorable state of the feeder road that links both towns from Pinihene on the Nkoranza-Kintampo road and to Tanoboase on the Techiman-Kintampo road and appealed to the DCE to arrange for its rehabilitation to facilitate the movements persons and farm produce. Nana Febiri Fi Ananfi II, Odikro of Baafi, at his community added his voice to the request of electricity for the people to improve upon their living conditions.

Nana Owusuaa Ayiwa, Queen mother of Sikaa, called for credit facilities for the women in the community to expand their economic activities. 21 Sept. 05
