DCE inaugurates unit committee at Ho

Ho, Aug 18, GNA - Membership of unit committees is essentially a sacrificial one and meant for only those imbued with the sense of development of their communities without reward, Mr Mawutor Goh, Ho District Chief Executive, said on Monday.

He was speaking at the inauguration of 39 Unit Committees in the Ho Electoral area at Ho.

Mr Goh said the concept was to tap the enthusiasm of community workers to speed up development in the various areas, saying that all over the world there are people who are interested in improving the fortunes of communities in which they live. He said the government is studying ways in which it can motivate unit committee members.

Mr Goh appealed to the unit committees to help increase revenue of the District Assembly, improve sanitation in their various areas and clear the streets and corners of stray animals. Mr Edwin Ankpa, Ho District Environmental Officer, slammed residents of the Ho SSNIT flats for their lukewarm attitude towards environmental cleanliness.

He said they throw garbage around the refuse containers and have kept their environs weedy.
