Craftsmen to be trained to produce good products

Ntonso (Ash), Sept 11, GNA- The Ministry of Tourism and Modernisation of the Capital City is arranging for experts from Japan and Thailand to train Ghanaian master craftsmen on how to turn out quality finished products.

Mr Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey, the sector Minister said even though Ghana boasts of good craftsmen, most of their products do not meet international standards due to poor quality.

Mr Obetsebi-Lamptey was addressing durbars held by chiefs, at Ntonso and Ehwiaa in the Kwabre District on Wednesday, as part of his three-day visit to Ashanti.

The Minister interacted with the Kwabre District Assembly at Mamponteng and the staff of the Centre for National Culture and visited the Armed Forces Museum in Kumasi.

Mr Obetsebi-Lamptey said "Poor finishing techniques do not only continue to rob our hard working and creative craftsmen of good market for their products but also denies the nation of enough foreign exchange because the products are unable to penetrate the global market."

''That is why the Ministry is arranging with the foreign experts to come and assist our craftsmen to turn out quality products", he said.
