Court fines boy for house breaking

The Mamponteng district court has fined Kwabena Boahen, a 17-year-old boy, 200,000 cedis for breaking into the room of one Kwadwo Yeboah and stealing his 800,000 cedis.

Boahen, an apprentice mason, pleaded guilty and will serve a two-year jail sentence in default.

Prosecuting, Police Inspector George Emmanuel Mensah told the court, presided over by Mr Kofi Akowuah that Boahen stayed at Bantama in Kumasi with his friend.

He said on February 19, 2003, the accused and his friend, now at large, went to Medoma near Mamponteng and to the house of Yeboah.

Inspector Mensah said when the two friends realised that there was nobody in the house, they climbed a wall and removed some roofing sheets on the building and jumped into the room of Yeboah.

He said after searching the room, they found 800,000 cedis, which they took and left the room unnoticed.

The prosecution said three days later, at about 10 am, Boahen returned to the house this time alone and entered Yeboah's room through the same spot they entered the previous time.

This time, however, Inspector Mensah said, luck ran out on him as he was spotted by a youngman who raised the alarm and people rushed to the house including Yeboah, the victim.

He said Yeboah was asked to open his door and when he did, they found the accused ransacking the victim's room and was arrested and sent to the Mamponteng police.
