Contract on household sanitation project signed at Sekondi

Sekondi May 23, GNA- The Shama-Ahanta East Metropolitan Assembly (SAEMA) on Tuesday, signed a contract with Management Intermediary (MI) for the construction of household places of convenience.

Mr. Philip Kwesi Nkrumah, Metropolitan Chief Executive signed on behalf of SAEMA, while the directors of three companies of MI signed on behalf of their respective organisations. The directors are Mr. Awuah Asante of First Team Associates, Mr Philip Kumahor of Energy Consultancy and Mr. Anane Fugah of Macaf Enterprise. In a speech, Mr. Nkrumah said the project forms part of the second phase of Urban Environmental Sanitation Programme and sponsored by the World Bank would take off immediately.

He said the project aims at providing 1,700 household places of convenience over a period of years five years at a total cost of 555,400 United States dollars.

Mr Nkrumah said landlords are to foot 50 per cent of the cost whiles the SAEMA bears the remaining.

He called on landlords especially those along the cost to take advantage of the facility to reduce defecation at the beaches and unauthorised places.
