Commuters beam with smiles on the motorway

Commuters on the 19 kilometer Accra-Tema Motorway have experienced a feel of Christmas as their vehicular toll fees are being paid for by a bank while they take home gifts and souvenirs.

The gesture, championed by First Atlantic Bank, a commercial and retail bank in Accra, started on Monday where they randomly pay the vehicular toll fees for all vehicles including trucks and “tro-tros” while distributing Christmas gifts.

Passengers are seen signaling the bank officials to hand their gifts to them so as not to be left out of the celebration. Items like t-shirts, mugs and food items are part of the gifts randomly handed out to commuters.

The Head of Corporate Communications of the bank, Mr. Eli Muzzu, said their decision to distribute gifts and pay toll fees for drivers and commuters alike was a way of telling people they are appreciated.

He said the spirit of Christmas is all about lending a helping hand to anyone and they chose to do it on the Motorway which is very busy with travelers at this time of the season. Mr. Muzzu said the activity would end on Friday.
