Community accuses Birim North for neglecting school

Ayeboafo (E/R), Oct. 31, GNA- The people of Ayeboafo, a farming community near Akyem Oda in the Birim North District, on Monday accused the Assembly for neglecting the settlement in the provision of educational infrastructure and other social amenities. In an interview with GNA at Akyem Oda, Reverend Robert T. Nartey, a pastor and opinion leader at Ayeboafo, said appeals by the community to the Assembly for the provision of portable water, clinic, places of convenience, educational infrastructure and the rehabilitation of roads did not yield positive results.

He said "This is why we have been agitating to move from the Birim North District to the Birim South District," adding that the Birim North District with its capital at New Abirem far from Ayeboafo. Rev. Nartey said the settlement was very close to Akyem Oda, the capital of Birim South and explained that if the town had been placed under Birim South, the people would not have experienced such neglect. Mr. Asafo Adjei, member of the Unit Committee of the community, said since its establishment in 1952, the Ayeboafo Local Authority School, serving over 30 surrounding villages had not been renovated, adding that the school block had become deplorable due to erosion caused by torrential rains.

Baffour Edward Ahiakwa, Odikro of Ayeboafo, noted that development projects were being executed in most communities in the Birim North District and expressed regret about the neglect of the community.
