Community Cooperative Unions in Bawku to be empowered

Bawku, May 19, GNA - Community Cooperative Unions in the Bawku municipality are to receive support from the United Nation Development Programme (UNDP), National Board for Small Scale Industries and the Human Security Project, to promote small scale businesses in the area. The Unions would be supported in the form of interest free loans which would be paid back from the first profit made by the beneficiary. Mr Roland Anyana, Municipal Cooperative Director, made this known during the presentation of certificates to 45 registered Community Cooperative Union Groups at Narango, a farming community near Bawku. Among these groups was the Narango-Bunaba Cooperative Pig Farmers Society.

Mr Anyana said community empowerment was one of the issues that could bring about national development and that interventions made by stakeholders were meant to promote quality livelihood for those at the grass root level. He called on the people to embrace the interventions that would help them improve their lives. The Municipal Director for National Board for Small Scale Industries, Mr Abubakari Zakari, said the Board was committed to supporting the groups so long as they made good use of the opportunities given to them..
