Communities must rekindle self-help spirit

The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Afigya-Kwabre, Mr. Kwaku Oppong-Kyekyeku Kaakyire, has urged the people to do more to transform their socio-economic situation through self-help.

All must share in the responsibility of speeding up the development of the area by accepting to actively participate in the implementation of community-initiated projects.

He said it was time they shed apathy and complemented the efforts of the assembly at bringing progress.

Mr. Oppong-Kyekyeku gave the assurance that communities that showed the initiative and drive towards improving their living conditions themselves would be supported.

He singled out for praise people at Ntiribuoho, who from their own resources, are building a library with an information communication technology (ICT) centre for the local school.

The project is now at the floor level and a fund-raising durbar was held at the weekend in aid of its execution.

Mr. Oppong-Kyekyeku encouraged the community not to look back but continue to work hard on the project and pledged to assist with some bags of cement.

The District Director of Education, Mr. Ignatius Mwinbe Ere-Der, advised students to be disciplined and to take their studies seriously, saying, this was the path to success. They also should avoid the misuse of the internet.

Nana Boafuo Konadu Yiadom, Asantehene’s Atenne Manwerehene, said prominence must be given to the teaching and learning of ICT.

Mr. Sampson Adu-Poku, Chairman of the Project Implementation Committee, appealed to individuals and organizations to join hands with the people to complete the project.
