Communities commend out-going District Police Commander

Ayeresu (Ash), Aug. 26, GNA - Ten communities in the Atwima District have commended Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Samuel Berko, Nyinahin District Police Commander, who is going on transfer, for his hard work and honesty.

They said through his dynamic leadership the Nyinahin Police have been able to rid the area of criminal activities including armed robberies.

The communities have, therefore, appealed to the Inspector-General of Police to waive the transfer of ASP Berko to enable him to continue with his good work in the area.

The communities are Agogo, Nyinahin, Nkruma, Achiase, Atuntuma, Ayeresu, Sreso-Timpom, Kyekyewere, Ntobroso and Adiembra. A spokesman for the communities, Opanin Kwaku Manu said for instance that it was through the diplomacy of ASP Berko that the Nyinahin chieftaincy dispute did not escalate into bloodshed. He also cited the arrest of one Kwabena Abebrese described by the Police as a notorious criminal.

Opanin Manu said through the efforts of ASP Berko armed robberies have been brought down as well as stealing, rape and indiscriminate assaults that were rampant in the area have been halted. ''Even though ASP Berko is a serving officer whose services may be needed in other parts of the country the communities have come to appreciate the selfless services he has been rendering to them.'' 26 Aug. 03
