Co-operative members acquire skills

Agona Swedru, Nov. 17, GNA - The Government and three donor agencies have spent 100,000 dollars to train Ghana Co-Operative Distillers Association Members to expand their businesses.

The donors are International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), World Bank and Africa Development Bank (ADB).

Mrs Gladys Ghartey, Micro Finance Co-ordinator of the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning, announced this on Thursday at a day's training workshop for Ghana Cooperative Distillers Association members at Agona Swedru.

The Members were drawn from Agona, Gomoa and Awutu-Effutu-Senya Districts of the Central region.

Mrs Ghartey said the training of the cooperative members was to build their capacity to enhance efficiency.

She said a total of 1,160 members of the association had benefited from the training programme, adding that at the end of two years 80,000 co-operative members would be trained.

Mrs Aba Smith, President of the Ghana Co-Operative Distillers Association, said the association had been identified as one of the informal rural micro financial institutions, which needed to be strengthened to play effective role in social life.
