Civil Servants Advised Against Being Partisan

Obuasi, Jan 20, GNA - Civil servants have been advised to remain neutral in the performance of their duties, especially during this election year.

Mr Joseph Kwadwo Boampong, the Adansi West District Chief Executive who gave the advice further reminded civil servants that by their schedule they serve the government of the day.

Addressing staff of the Adansi West District Assembly at an end-of- year party organised for them at the week-end, Mr Boampong said that he would not countenance any staff whose attitude to work is intended to sabotage the government's programmes and policies. He advised those who have just joined the staff from other assemblies to condition themselves to suit with work culture of the district since "here we demand nothing than professionalism in your work".

The District Co-ordinating Director, Mr M.K. Addai commended the staff for good work done last year but reminded them that the challenges ahead are enormous since Obuasi's municipal status was in sight. He stressed on teamwork and urged the staff to work in unity so that the assembly could achieve its development goals.

Mr Addai added that his administration would not tolerate any behaviour that would undermine the operation of the assembly. He was emphatic on time management and asked the workers to be punctual to duty. "Let us make 2004 a time conscious year", he stressed. Mr Addai advised the staff to be mindful of the judicious use of the facilities at the offices, especially electricity and warned that he would not hesitate to direct the disconnection of any office found to be misusing electricity.

The Co-ordinating Director paid tribute to the staff, who have worked with the assembly since its inception but recently transferred to other districts, and asked them to be worthy ambassadors of the district.

Mr Sampson Owusu-Ansah, the District Environmental Health Officer, who had, for two consecutive years been named the best worker of the assembly was presented with a coloured television set. The second best worker award went to Mr Edward Oduro, the budget analyst, while Mr Charles Badu and Mr John Badu, both with the works department were adjudged the dedicated workers of the year. 20 Jan 04
