Chieftaincy Violence Threatens New Abirem

Chieftaincy violence, which the country has witnessed in recent times, resulting in the death and maiming of many people, nearly visited New Abirem, the district capital of Birim North in the Eastern Region.

The underlying protracted dispute is between the Chief, Nana Amo Twiritwie, and the Krontihene, Nana Opuni Asamoah.

As a result, the supporters and sympathizers of the two combatants have been torn apart and are always at each other’s throat at the least provocation.
