Chiefs and people of Mankessim demonstrate against killings

Mankessim (C/R), July 29, GNA - The chiefs and people of Mankessim Traditional Area on Thursday went on a demonstration in protest against recent killings at Mankessim.

The demonstration, which was led by Nana Ama Amissah, the Queenmother o= f the traditional area and Nana Onya Tufuhen and Regent of Edumadze was necessitated by the killing of a retired teacher and a market woman last week. Addressing the media after the demonstration through the main streets o= f the town, the chiefs appealed to the Inspect General of Police to increase the number of the police personnel in the town to ensure safety of the people.

They said only 15 police personnel were in the town to protect over 45,000 the people and traders from all parts of the country who transact business at the Mankessim market.

The chiefs expressed concern about the killings and said if immediate steps were not taken to stop the murders and arrest the culprits patronage of the market could be affected.

They assured the police of their cooperation to ensure that the perpetrators were arrested and brought to book.
