Chief pledges to improve his people's lot with agric

Abutia-Kloe, April 2, GNA - Togbe Adza-Kodzo VI, the newly installed chief of the Gblevi Clan of Abutia-Kloe, in the Ho Municipal Area, has pledged to raise the economic circumstances of his people with increased agricultural production.

He said he would facilitate schemes that would put the underutilized vast arable lands to good use.

Togbe Adza-Kodzo, known in private life as David Kwasi Bansah, a staff of the Value Added Tax (VAT) office, Adabraka in Accra, was speaking at a ceremony at Abutia-Kloe, on Thursday, to formally outdoor him. He said the way around the enigma of poverty among his people, in the midst of valuable resources, should be a more scientific approach to tilling the land. Togbe Adza-Kodzo said the expected higher incomes should enable his people to bear the cost of supporting the education of their children and dependants. "Everybody would have loved to educate his or her child but we have not been doing well in this direction simply due to the lack of funds," he observed.

He acknowledged the existence of petty squabbles within the clan which he pledged to tackle for a united front. The highlight of the programme was exchanges of oaths of allegiance and cooperation among chiefs of the town. As part of the ceremony, Togbe Adza-Kodzo would on Good Friday plant trees to mark his coronation, attend a durbar of chiefs on Saturday and a thanksgiving service on Sunday.
