Chief commends government for projects

Akim Manso(E/R), Jan. 23, GNA - The Chief of Akim Manso in the Birim South District, Obrempong Sintim Poku, III, has commended the government on its commitment to develop the town since assuming office. He mentioned. in particular the on-going rehabilitation works on the four-kilometre road linking the town to the main Akim Oda - Agona Swedru road, the provision of a market, sanitation facilities as well as awarding contract for the rehabilitation of the 18- mileage Akim Manso-Osenase roads among other projects.

Obrempong Poku, who is also the Benkumhene of Akim Kotoku traditional area, was addressing a grand durbar at Akim Manso on Thursday to climax their week-long Odwira festival.

He appealed to politicians to conduct their electioneering campaign in a manner that would not disturb the current peace in the country. The Benkumhene used the occasion to appeal to his people to embrace some of the President's Special Initiatives such on cassava and oil palm, to create employment for the youth.

On the HIV/HIV pandemic, Obrempong Poku called for concerted efforts from all to fight the deadly disease which, he said, had now become a developmental problem.

He appealed to his people to embrace and fully participate in self-help projects being embarked upon in the town since the government alone cannot meet their socio economic needs.

Obrempong Poku reminded them that the setting of bush fires was a punishable offence and advised them against indiscriminate bush burning, group hunting and careless throwing of cigarette stubs.

He also advised them to refrain from all activities that tended to degrade the environment such as indiscriminate felling of trees and contamination of water bodies through bad fishing practices.
