Chief appeals to gov’t over unpaid land compensation

Gbee-Owomli Mantse of Teshie, Nii Adjetey Obuor-buor II, has appealed to President John Dramani Mahama to compensate them for 850 acres of land which was taken by the State some years ago.

At a press conference organised recently, the chief stated that the said acres of lands, which are around Adentan in the Greater Accra Region, were taken by the State to establish an Animal Research Institute.

According to Obuor-buor II, out of the 850 acres of land, government acquired 750 acres with plans to build an Animal Research Institute.

Strangely, the chief alleged that because the said land could not be used for its intended purpose past and present ministers of state shared it among themselves.

And since then, successive and the current governments have all refused to pay the Gbee-Owomli family the right royalties, Obuor-buor II stressed.

To this end, he called on President Dramani Mahama to intervene in the matter so the right compensation would be paid to the land owners.

He indicated that “we [Gbee-Owomli family] will fight with the last drop of “our blood to get back our village and the cemetery which has been graded down by the brother of the regional minister, the late Asafoatse Apor.”

He was particularly also not happy that, the unused buildings that were built by former President Rawlings on the 165 acres of land in the 90s to house some security officers at Adentan Housing Down were now being occupied by armed robbers and prostitutes.

He further appealed to government and other relevant authorities to probe into these disturbing matters to know those behind the sale their lands purported to be under an Executive Instrument before it ignites mayhem in the community.

He claimed that they have all the relevant legal documents as the rightful owners of the 1646 acres of lands which include areas such as Lakeside, Animal Research Institute and Adentan Housing Down.
