Chief appeals to Gov't to tar Badu-Krom-Nkatsim road

Nkatsim (C/R), July 19, GNA - Nana Kwaku Acheampong, Youth Chief of Nkatsim in the Ajumako Enyan-Essiam District has asked government to reconstruct and tar the six-and-half-kilometre feeder road from Badu-Krom to Nkatsim to speed up the development of the area.

He said the poor state of the road was a source of worry to residents of the local communities who were predominantly farmers.

Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency at Nkatsim near Mankessim, Nana Acheampong indicated that farmers found it difficult to cart agricultural produce such as cocoa, palm fruits, tomatoes, pepper and maize, among others, to the market at Mankessim thereby worsening their economic plight.

He said due to the inaccessible nature of the road, transportation had become a problem and that certain perishable commodities normally got rotten, resulting in heavy losses for the farmers.

Communities in that part of the District also found it difficult to access medical facilities in times of emergency, he added.

Nana Acheampong, however, lauded government for the extension of electricity to the area and reiterated the need for the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to extend power connection to individual houses.

He appealed to government to establish a Senior High school in the town to ease the plight of children who had to travel to Mankesssim before they could access senior secondary education.
