Central Region bar operators to train waiters

Twifo Praso (C/R), Nov 17, GNA - The Central Region branch of the National Drinking Bar Operators Association (NADBOA) is to establish a 500 million cedis school at Winneba to train waiters and waitresses.

Mr Malik Arthur, regional chairman of the association, said this at a durbar to mark the 10th anniversary of the association.

He appealed to tourism development oriented organisations as well as NGO's to assist the association to undertake the project.

Mr David Foster Forson, executive director of CEDECOM, said research his outfit did in conjunction with the Universities of Cape Coast and Maryland in the United States identified lack of management skills, poor hygiene, safety and security systems and unsatisfactory customer relations as some of the shortcomings of the bar operators.

He commended the executives of the association for their vision and their commitment and dedication.

"Our concerted efforts at supporting this venture of NADBOA will, in the long run, be rewarded with a high level of quality service delivery that will meet international standards in the industry and enhance tourism development in the region."

Mr Charles Osei Bonsu, the Acting Deputy Director of the Ghana Tourist Board, expressed the hope that when established the school would help provide more employment for the youth in the region.

He appealed to the executives of the association to involve other stakeholders in the tourism industry like the hotels, restaurants and traditional caterers in the project so that the region could provide quality services in all areas of the industry.
