Cattle herdsmen in Tackla Agokopke angry over 'violent' label

Cattle herdsmen in Tackla Agokopke in the Volta Region have spoken out against what they say are attempts by the general public to label them as perpetrators of violence.

The herdsmen say they have suffered years of assault from residents in the area due to this labeling.

The herdsmen say they are in very sore relationship with the residents and blame the media for creating the derogatory perception on issues concerning nomadic Fulani herdsmen.

The herdsmen maintain that they have stayed off the farmlands of the residents. The residents however say they have been unable to farm for some time now because their lands have been extensively grazed by the herdsmen.

They said their calls to have the herdsmen removed have been ignored because the cattle is owned by police officers and lecturers who reside in the area.**
