Catholic University Swears In New SRC

Space FM,Sunynai- The Dean of Students at the Catholic University College of Fiapre in Sunyani, Dr. Nuhu Ahmed, has urged executives of the new Students Representative Council, (SRC), to adopt good-hearted, selfless character, as well as master their emotions in all their undertakings to ensure they come out tops in steering the affairs of the student body.

He also charged them to have patience in all their interactions with their constituents and above all, uphold a high sense of intergrity and the fear of God.

Dr. Ahmed said this during the 4th handing over ceremony of the Students Representative Council, (SRC) of the school on Monday.

The ceremony was witnessed by the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor James Hawkins Ephraim, the Bishop of the Sunyani Catholic Diocese, Rt. Rev. Matthew Kwasi Gyamfi, teaching and non-teaching staff of the school and the clergy.

The Dean of students commended the immediate past SRC for their good work in maintaining peace and serenity on campus during their tenure in office and urged the new SRC to endeavour to be proactive, creative and disciplined.

"God is assigning you responsibilities towards your fellow students and to humanity. You must keep this honour, live to the expectation of your friends who voted you into power and make the university proud by your words and actions", he charged the new SRC.

He said the university has confidence in them as student leaders to build an unprecedented peaceful and academically rewarding campus life.

He assured the new SRC that the support from the office of Students Affairs, university authorities, students and from God, would make their tenure in office exemplary and fulfilling.

The immediate past President of the SRC, Mr Emmanuel Taa-Amoako, observed that if students want to get things better for them, they must first get better.

Philosophically, he said "our thoughts generate into our habits which lead to our character, which then lead to our actions".

The ex- SRC president added that students must use their stay on campus to build themselves into useful citizens for the nation.He appreciated the support from the students body during their tenure in office and called for the same support to be accorded the new council.

The ex -SRC Secretay, Miss Getrude Yartel Kubin, told Space FM that she learnt a lot about student adminstration during her tenure in office and believes she is in a good position to deliver any time she is given leadership roles.

Miss Kubin commended the student body for supporting the past SRC and said "without your support, comments, encouragement and advice, we couldn't have made it, indeed we are grateful".

She urged fellow female students to run for positions on campus to ensure better and stronger voices for them.

The President of the SRC for the 2007/2008 academic year, Mr. Emmanuel Amankona, pledged on behalf of the council to "do their finest to bring to the student body programms that would make them feel comfortable,excited and in all motivate students to achieve their academic excellence".

The president however noted that for the SRC to succeed, much would depend on the support and co-orporation from the entire student body.

Mr. Amankona urged his fellow students to learn to read notices since that is the key to awareness and also learn to keep clean environment to avoid diseases.

The new SRC president again called on the students to keep good friends to build good strenght for academic successes. The 22 member SRC were sworn in by Dr. Nuhu Ahmed.
