Catholic Priest laid to rest

The remains of the Reverend Father Peter Gyabaah Komor, former priest of the Catholic Diocese, Sunyani, has been laid to rest at the Saint James Seminary Priests cemetery at Abesim, near Sunyani.

Rev. Fr. Komor, aged 56, who until his death on Saturday, September 27, at the Sunyani Regional Government Hospital, was the Head of Department of the Psycho-Social Centre at the College of Health and Well-Being-Kintampo (CoHK) in the Brong-Ahafo Region.

He also doubled as tutor for the Community Mental Health Programme and the Clinical Psychiatry Officers Programme at the College.

In a homily at the pre-burial service at the Christ the King Cathedral in Sunyani, the Most Rev Matthew Kwasi Gyamfi, Catholic Bishop of Sunyani, likened Rev Fr. Komor’s life to that of Saint Peter the Apostle, who braced all challenges and, therefore, never gave up his calling.

Most Rev. Gyamfi said the late Priest at a point in his vocation encountered career threatening challenges but humbly and prayerfully persevered to continue with the priesthood.

The Bishop described him as ‘a good, committed and charismatic priest’ who impacted spiritually upon the lives of the so many people he pastured in the Diocese in his 24- year duty priesthood.

Rev Fr. Komor, a native of Dormaa Danyame in the Brong-Ahafo Region, attended Saint Hubert’s Minor Seminary in Kumasi for his Ordinary and Advanced Level courses from 1977-1984 and proceeded to the Saint Peter’s Major Seminary at Pedu, Cape Coast.

He was ordained into the Priesthood in 1990, after a six year study of Philosophy and Theology and had since then worked in various parishes and institutions in the Sunyani Catholic Diocese till 1998.

Between 1998 and 2000 the late Priest left for further studies at Heathrow College, University of London, to earn Master of Arts Degree in Pastoral Studies including Medical Ethics.

Rev Fr. Komor, from 2001 to 2007 entered Regent College School of London where he obtained Master’s Degree in Psycho-Therapy and Counselling and on his return from London worked as Chaplain at the Sunyani Regional Government Hospital and also pastured the flock at the Saint Francis of Assisi Parish at Kotokrom in the Sunyani Municipality.

The late Priest last worked as Parish Priest at Saint Francis Xavier Parish at Chiraa in the Sunyani West District before joining the staff of CoHK in 2011 where he worked for the establishment of the Psycho-Social Centre.
