Cancel license of Adamus - Nkroful Chief

Nkroful (W/R), Oct 25, GNA - The Chiefs and people of Nkroful in the Nzema East district have appealed to President John Agyekum Kufuor for the cancellation of the license of Adamus Resources Limited for prospecting and mining in the area. Abusuapanyin Nyame Blay, Regent of Nkroful speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) said the cancellation of the licenses would help to protect farmlands, the only food producing area for the 13 surrounding towns in the Nzema East District.

Commenting on the clash between the youth of the town and policemen and officials of the Mining Company, he stated that the people had resolved to protest against mining in the Teleku-Bokazo and Anwia area. He noted that allowing mining in the area would bring hardship to the people who are predominantly farmers. The 82-year-old Regent denied that he incited the youth of the three towns to attack policemen and officials of Adamus Resources. He expressed the hope that President Kufuor would listen to their appeal to ensure peace in the area. Mr Moses Sennie, spokesman of the youth denied that the youth of the three towns set kiosks, houses and shops ablaze and looted money during the clash.
