C/R health administration sets up secretariat for NHIS

Cape Coast, Oct 28, GNA- The Central Regional Health Administration has, with assistance from DANIDA, set up a regional heath insurance secretariat to help intensify awareness about the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) to facilitate its smooth take off in the region. The secretariat, which is located at the Cape Coast district hospital, is serving as a resource centre for dissemination of information about the scheme to the public and researching into existing insurance schemes in various communities to determine the readiness to accept the NHIS.

The Regional Director of Health Services, Dr Aaron Offei, said this in an interview with the GNA on Tuesday.

He said personnel of the secretariat will also assist in the establishment of similar secretariats, as well as in the training of technical teams, in the Gomoa, Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam, Assin and Abura-Asebu-Kwamankese districts where the NHIS is already in various stages of implementation.

Dr Offei said a trainer of trainers' workshop has been held for district assembly members, community leaders and health personnel from various parts of the region to enhance awareness about the benefits of the scheme.
