Bus carrying school children involved in an accident

Kumasi, Oct 26, GNA - A number of pupils of the Reach High School at Buokrom Estate in Kumasi sustained various degrees of injury on Tuesday morning when their school bus on which they were run into a ditch. Two of the victims, who sustained serious but not life-threatening injuries, are on admission at the Manhyia District Hospital. The accident occurred near the Serwaa Nyarko Senior High School (SHS) at Dichemso.

The 33-seater Mercedes Benz bus was said to be transporting about 70 children to school at the time. An eyewitness, Mr Richard Karikari, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that, the driver lost control of the steering wheel on reaching a junction near the SHS and run into a ditch. Motorists and people around went to the rescue of the kids and rushed them to the Manhyia hospital, where those with minor injuries where treated and discharged. District Superintendent of Police (DSP) Michael Amankwaa Boateng of Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU), Asawasi District, confirmed the accident and said they were investigating.
