Burkinabe delegation tour industrial establishments in Ashanti region

Kumasi, July 05, GNA - The management of Logs and Lumber Limited (LLL), a Kumasi-based timber firm, has embarked on afforestation projects at Bia Taunya in Western Region, Barekese Dam catchment area in Ashanti Region and Tain II Forest in Brong-Ahafo Region for its sustainable forestry policy to meet production demands. So far over 1,000 hectares have been planted with indigenous and exotic species and provided employment for the youth. Mr Richard Kuagbela, General Manager of the company, announced this when a 14-member team from Central North of Burkina Faso visited the firm at Asokwa in Kumasi on Wednesday.

The team formed part of the 30-member delegation on a five-day tour of Ashanti Region to explore business opportunities in agriculture, commerce and industries.

Mr Kuagbela said the company had equipment and machinery for processing lumber for local consumption and export including, veneer, lumber and moulding.

He said a major problem facing the company was the energy crisis that had affected production and was optimistic the problem would be solved to enhance productivity.

Mr Compaore Christophe, High Commissioner of Boulsa City in North Central Burkina Faso, who led the team, commended Ghana for utilizing her natural resources for development. He said the bond of unity and brotherhood between the two regions would be strengthened for their mutual benefit.
