Buah Association organises free vacation classes for JHS students

Esiama (W/R), Aug 24, GNA - Two hundred and fifty Junior High School (JHS) students in the Ellembelle, Jomoro and Nzema-East Districts in the Western Region, have benefited from a month's free tuition and lodging pre-senior high school (SHS) vacation classes. The 115 boys and 135 girls were taken through core subjects - Mathematics, English Language and Integrated Science, and Social Studies and Information and Communication Technology among other courses, at Esiama.

The vacation classes was organized by Friends of Buah Association in collaboration with Osagyefo and Associates, a non-governmental (NGO), operating in the area, and jointly sponsored by the Member of Parliament for Ellembelle, Mr. Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah and the Ellembelle Assembly.

Mr. Ishmael Mensah, Public Relations Officer in charge of the vacation classes, who disclosed these in an interview with the GNA at Esiama at the Weekend, said the initiative was aimed at improving education towards the development of Nzemaland. He said the classes gave the students an insight into subjects being taught at the SHS, adding that with the discovery of oil in the region, it behoved the Association to train and guide students on the selection of courses relating to the oil industry. Mr. Jerry Jones Afful, chairman of the Association, told GNA that students of tertiary institutions from the area were employed to teach the JHS students.

He expressed the hope that the exercise would impact positively on the academic performance of the beneficiaries because they were exposed to SHS syllabus. 24 Aug. 09
