Breman celebrates Odwira peacefully

The Central Regional Minister, Mr. Aquinas Kobina Tawiah Quansah has congratulated the chiefs and people of Breman Traditional Area for celebrating this year’s Odwira Afahye peaceful.

The Minister congratulated the people when he joined them at a colorful grand durbar to climax the 2014 Odwira Afahye held at Breman Asikuma, under the theme “Uniting Bremanman for Accelerated Development”.

Earlier, Odeefuo Amoakwa Buadu VIII President of Bremanman Traditional Council was carried in a palanquin paraded through the principal street amidst Fromtomfrom and Brass Band music to the durbar grounds.

The Odwira Afahye of the Breman people is celebrated annually to recall the migration of the ancestors from Asante Breman to the present settlement in the 1600s.

“The underlying factor for the bravery exhibited during the migration was unity and it is for this reason that, I give a thumbs-up for a well-chosen theme for the celebration” Mr Quansah said.

The Minister also commended the people for establishing a Customary Land Secretariat in Breman Asikuma after a memorandum of understanding was signed between the traditional council and the office of the Administration of Stool Lands.

He said the establishment of the Secretariat will enable Nananom to run their land administration in an improve manner by ensuring proper records on all lands in the area and dealing swiftly with all current or future litigation in the area.

On extension of electricity to rural communities, Mr. Quansah said about 90 percent of towns and villages in the district have been connected to the National Electricity Grid and have requested for the list of communities yet to be connected for necessary action.

On education, he stated that the government of the NDC is commitment to education and human resources development in the district and is demonstrated by the fact that, government through the District Assembly had spent over eighty-five percent (85%) of her budgetary allocation on education infrastructure and other education related issues.

He announced that Cabinet has approved a loan facility for construction of 10 Polyclinics in the Region and the traditional area is a beneficiary.

The Minister used the occasion to entreat the youth, who are the future man-power development of the country to take their education seriously, adding that vices, as well as acts of indiscipline, alcoholism and other immoral behavior should be eschewed.
